I miss my prep period

When I was a teacher, I used to get a forty-five minute worked into my schedule for planning. Of course, being an elementary teacher, ten minutes was eaten up walking the kids back and forth to whatever special they were scheduled for, and usually ten more minutes was spent returning phone calls and/or writing notes back to parents, but I usually got at least twenty or so minutes to do some prep work for special activities for the day or the next day.

I usually also arrived at school at least an hour early to get things ready for the day, and I usually stayed for two to three hours afterwards to come up with fun new things to try and mark papers. And then on the weekend DH and I would spend hours at Borders with all our school work spread out on one table, grading papers and planning for the week ahead.

I really miss the opportunity to prep for special activities to do with the kids now that I'm a mom. I think I would be a much better mom if I got that chance on a regular basis.

Amen, Rachel. The "prep work" is also fun! We should start a mother-union, and request this in the contract.

Man, I never thought about it that way. I'm up at 5 a.m. most days, just enjoying the quiet. I'm trying to kick in with routines at this time, but I really like the scream free moments when I get them...
