Thursday Thirteen

My totally conflicted list of why I should/should not be president of the MOMS Club next year

  1. I'm overwhelmed right now with all I need to do around the house.
  2. Next year all three boys will be in school five mornings a week, making my life a little easier.
  3. Since our chapter is sistering in July, making the remaining chapter significantly smaller, this is the perfect opportunity to try new things.
  4. With a small club we can provide more individualized support for everyone.
  5. I had great ideas this year as President that I never got to implement.
  6. I feel like I have not done a great job as President as it is, so should I really do this again?
  7. This could be a fresh start!
  8. When I decided not to run again two nights ago, I felt GREAT!
  9. When I talked with a member about all my ideas for this year if I hadn't decided not to run again, I got real excited about the potential for this upcoming year.
  10. If I don't run for President this year, I'm not sure if I would get the chance again to start with a smaller chapter.
  11. I love the idea of MOMS Club, that moms support each other.
  12. I would love to do more with that idea and figure out more ways for everyone to feel that support.
  13. I thought I had decided, but now I'm going back and forth.

What should I do?!!!

Don't do it!!!! Your reasons are sound. Yes you still have wonderful ideas and your heart is there for it's success, but be a mentor to the new President. Pass the torch. Breath in and out.

Do what is best for you and your family. You can make a difference and do great things by just being a member. You should do a post on what your club is like. I would be interest to know. I am a stay at home mom and go to a couple of groups. My TT is up.

I'd do it, but that's just me. If you're needing to let it go...then do so.

The second year is definitely a little easier, you have all the kinks worked out so to speak. I wouldn't do it more than twice in a row (you get burnt out, the chapter starts to be "your" chapter instead of everyone's, etc.) I would be glad to chat with you about this, Rachel, since I have been there, done that :-)

Pray about it. Ask the Lord to make you sure whatever you decide and then stand firm. I've always gone with the motto....If in doubt don't.

Maybe instead of not running again you could start another cool group. Maybe even some of the same people would be in it.

It the end though, don't do anything you don't have to that you can't say the enjoyment outweighs the stress.

Thanks for visiting my TT. Happy Thursday!

you can be involved in Mom's Club without being president, right? You don't have to lead it in order to be a part of it. I know you love it and it makes you feel good, but there are other ways to get and give support.
If you felt that good saying no, then it was the right choice. Sometimes we have to give up things we love even though our brains scream, "NOOOO!!!!"
Do what you feel is best for your family.

I agree with the "go with your heart" sentiment. I had a neighbor who was the secretary of a MOMS and I know how much work she put into it when other ladies in the group didn't do their part. (and there are always some, arent' there?)

Honestly, I think you have GREAT ideas and enthusiasm. I wish I were in your area, a part of your group. ;)

I think Lazy Daisy's advice is GREAT, m-j's too. Very balanced.

I think you should follow what your heart is telling you. *s*

Thank you for visiting my TT. Happy Easter!

I think your reasons for not being president again are very good. Mine would be more selfish. Like how the boys would be in preschool FIVE days a week next year giving you a little bit of a break. You volunteer for much too much. It's time to take a break. Forget about all of the stuff that you "could" do if you were president again and look at how much it has affected you in the past year.

Take a break.

From someone who is in a similar position...
Here's why I personally wouldn't do it.
1.) You can still be an active member and do a lot to make a difference
2) It's important to get new leadership so that people with different perspectives can shape the club
3.) I think it's important for members to work with different leaders. It builds a good sense of community and connection

It sounds like your gut is telling you not to do it, but I can tell you are having conflicting feelings so have you considered maybe a co-presidency with one of the mom that you trust? Someone that you know would really carry her part of the load? However, you are still going to be a member of the group right? You'll still get the same support from other moms which is one of the reasons you said you chose to be involved in it.
